Why SellYourTV.com?

On May 1, 2014 I made a major life change – I sold my TV.  Yes, “major life change”, that phrase is not dramatic, I am an American from Texas and I SOLD MY TV!!  Over the past year I have been going through a mini simplification process to get rid of old stuff from a storage unit.  As my friend says, “storage is the new baggage!”  I got addicted to selling useless stuff on craigslist and, without much thought, my TV got thrown into the pile.

This venture is not about hating TV or people that watch TV.  Selling my TV was just the motivation that I needed to kick start a dream.  For some reason selling that 55 inch piece of electronic was seriously thought provoking and life changing.  Thus, sellyourtv.com was born.  Plus, the domain was available and it is marketing genius that will cause many social media explosions.

My old TV!

Did you know (based on my expert Googling):

  • The average American spends about 35 hours per week watching TV – that is about 5:11 hours per day.
  • 99% of U.S. households have at least one TV.
  • The average American will spend 9 years of their life watching TV.

Yes, I probably watched the entire season of Breaking Bad in one week last year (2013).  Maybe (in the same year) I watched over twenty romcoms on Netflix (which was not proper training for my Match.com spat).  SportsCenter could have repeated three times per morning.  I will also admit that I spend a lot of time watching crap on the internet.  So, I’ll say I have saved 7.5 years of free time for my life.  With that time I am going to join the 1% (people that don’t have TV) and go see how the rest of the world lives.  An epic around the world adventure starts in early 2015, more about that and me soon…
